About Christopher J. Carter

Where mountains and people meet, you will likely find C.J. Carter with a camera in hand. As a filmmaker and skier, his travels and community based media projects have taken him to the world’s greater and lesser mountain ranges and into some of the most remote mountain societies on earth. Through filmmaking C.J. seeks to integrate meaningful cultural interactions with media capture; to collaborate, tell stories and to share the experience of the hills across cultures. A recipient of the Hans Saari Memorial Fund grant for ski mountaineering exploration in 2011, C.J. and a small team of Montana based ski mountaineers traveled to the Altai Mountains of West Mongolia. There they explored technical ski descents in the region's highest peaks while working with nomadic families to tell the story of their changing relationship with their mountain environment. While a curiosity for new peaks and peoples take him around the world, Montana is home; a place where regional projects, ski descents and coldsmoke keep him returning for more.
